It’s when our “normal” work environment is turned upside down that you can really value a company with a great culture. Last year, I joined Mainstay Technologies and set up my dedicated space in our Belmont office. Six months into the job, the pandemic sent us all home. Trendy perks like ping pong and snacks went away and the offices cleared out. It was tough to imagine the impact of working fully remote on the company culture we rave about. Now, having worked from home longer than I was in the office, I often reflect on the traditional and remote environment and its impact on Mainstay.
While culture is often influenced by tangible benefits and perks, it’s uniquely shaped by the way we support one another in times of change. The “perks” that I grew to value this year were job clarity and security, support with career pathing and development, and a culture that is guided by a clear purpose.
There are two important reasons that I believe Mainstay continues to have an outstanding company culture and why we continue to be honored as one of the Best Companies to Work For in New Hampshire for 2020:
Impact starts from within our teams.
Using modern technology, supporting my teammates, and checking in over Microsoft Teams made adjusting to remote work easier. We were offered leadership check-ins and received transparent updates, moments of teammates living our values, and tips for making remote work fun. Clear to all were initiatives focused on individual well-being, healthy routines, open communication, and effective and evolved security practices.
That sense of being connected while working apart was important to transcend some of the personal challenges of such a quick shift. Josh Young, our Security Operations Center Analyst, says it best, “My teammates and I passionately support our clients but we’re equally passionate about working together and assisting each other. I believe in our vision to positively impact every life we touch, it’s just as important internally as it is externally. We truly want to see everyone grow, succeed, and thrive—all while having a great time doing it.”
While many of our teammates have been with Mainstay for years, we also welcomed new faces. Bridget Franciscovich joined our Information Security team as an Information Security Program Specialist. She shared, “From my first day at Mainstay, not only was it clear that my new teammates wanted to be here, but they wanted me here as well. It is refreshing to be a part of a company with such high company-wide morale where passion and excellence correlate to teamwork and not competition.” And we continue to grow, check out our open positions!
We consistently deliver amazing technology experiences.
No matter where we’re sitting—at home, in the office, or on-site—we’re here to serve each other and our clients with deep competence. Given that we deliver an IT and Information Security department, we’re an extension of our clients’ teams and fill an entire business unit in the organizational chart, and we honor that responsibility by delivering amazing experiences.
The teams that are all too familiar with this responsibility have grown this year, Client Services, Systems Administration, and Response Services. Kyle Schofield, our Manager of Client Services shares, “Being able to come in as a technology partner—an extension of their team—means we’re developing genuine relationships. It’s incredibly rewarding to be able to have such a positive impact on not only the success of their business but on the lives of the people we support.”
And working day-to-day directly with our clients as a Response Services Technician, Brian Mack says, “To work at Mainstay is to work with a finely tuned, effective team. Even faced with technical challenges and difficult scenarios, you have the entire company’s collective knowledge and experience at your fingertips. Our clients are powered by incredible people.” We’re always looking to improve how we deliver the Mainstay experience in an industry that continues to evolve. We’re confidently building and growing a company and culture that will continue to serve New Hampshire and the surrounding area for decades to come.
We are incredibly grateful to Business NH Magazine and the panel of judges that recognized us this year among the Best Companies to Work For. My teammates are at the heart of why we continue to make the list, and together, we continue to make Mainstay a meaningful place to work.
