Daniel Clocksin

Hometown?

I was born in Pretoria, South Africa, although I have lived most of my life in the beautiful town of Alton Bay, New Hampshire.

What is your role at Mainstay?

My role is focused on playing a part in the overall efficiency and centralization of the Client Services team, from assisting in coordination or communication with organizations and individuals to managing the data and processes within the Client Services team.

When you’re not found in front of a computer you are…

Doing a variety of different activities, from working on my truck, to reading a good book, to practicing bass guitar.

What was the last great book you read?

“The Road to Character” by David Brooks has been a great read for me. I spent quite a bit of time reading Brooks’ book (one year, in fact!), as books on character do require a bit of implementation. I enjoyed reading a segment, understanding the implications, and spending time applying the character traits before reading further. I would definitely recommend it to anyone with a bit of time on their hands!

What is something unique about you?

Being brought up in a home with an American father and Afrikaans (South African) mother, I was always confronted with varying cultures. Having the ability to integrate into both quite equally has been an experience which I am extremely blessed to have.

What would you do if you had an extra 5 hours every week?

I would love to devote that time to either learning a new instrument, catching up on my reading list, or working on a carpentry project.

If you could go anywhere for an entire month, where would it be and why would you go there?

I would most definitely travel to Switzerland, if I had a month to travel. I would rent a log cabin at the bottom of the Swiss Alps, spending my time both exploring the small surrounding towns, immersing myself in the culture, and snowboarding from various peaks in the Alps.

What are you most frequently heard listening to?

I love listening to business and news podcasts while commuting, and am a large fan of just about every music genre, although Jazz has been a recent favorite. My favorites include Gangs of Ballet, GoGoPenguin, Mammal Hands, and Beethoven.

Favorite sports teams?

I am a huge rugby fan, and there is no better team to root for than the Springboks. If you haven’t seen rugby before give it a watch! American football is the next best alternative, and the Patriots are my favorite team.

What is one thing you love about your career?

Not only do I love the fact that every day is going to involve something different, but I also love the way that I have a voice at the table when it comes to ideas, structures, or even just personal opinion. Each day is very simply what I make it out to be, and the level of ownership is both a challenging and freeing – a brilliant combination!

What is one thing everyone should know about Mainstay Technologies?

Mainstay is an organization focused on wholistic growth. What that means is that you have every ability to push yourself and drive towards new goals, both organization-wide and personally, but not at the sacrifice of maintaining a healthy work-life balance. The great part is that it is not accomplished by pushing forward impersonal policies, but rather through the company’s culture as a whole, from new team members all the way to the CEO.
