Ryan Barton

What is your role at Mainstay?

I serve my teammates who serve our clients. My primary job is to lead our vision, work with team leaders to set priorities, and ensure we are being successful. Perhaps more importantly, I lead the definition of that success, to ensure the energies of this team, and the output of Mainstay are genuinely bringing more goodness in the world.

What was your first memory of using computers?

When I was 9, my father’s employer gave him a “cutting edge” black and white laptop running Windows 3.1. I think I spent 8 hours on the computer that first day. I found technology endlessly fascinating and rewarding, and the journey began for me that day. Before long, I was repairing computers for families and friends, designing websites, and furthering my exploration of the amazing world of computers.

What was the last great book you read?

An unfair question! You’ll have to ask me directly for the latest. I love reading and post an annual blog post of my recommendations from the year before.  (2021, 2020, 2019, 2018).

What do you like to do outside work?

My family is my priority. I have the most amazing wife – Trish – and three children – Chloe, Noah, and Olivia – and being with them and pursuing their happiness is the great joy of my life.

What is something unique about you?

I believe we should live every aspect of our life connected to true meaning – that all our activities, our works, our pursuits should ultimately connect with the reason we’re here, and with our call to seek genuine flourishing for ourselves and others. And business is no exception – the true measure of success for a business is the degree of genuine flourishing that it furthers.  Business is a powerful force that can be harnessed for a true, lasting definition of success!

What would you do if you had an extra 5 hours every week?

Write. It is a skill I’m cultivating and would love to devote more time to.

What is one thing that everyone should know about Mainstay?

This team genuinely cares. It is an incredibly committed, passionate group of people who are deeply dedicated to our mission, to service of others, to genuine kindness, and to relentless evolution. The combination of caring and competence makes me proud to be a Mainstay teammate.
