What was your first memory of using computers?
I’d say my first memory of using computers would be playing Minesweeper and Math Blaster. I must have done some school reports as well, but since I did them by hand or typewriter prior to my parents’ first computer, I only remember the games!
When you’re not found in front of a computer you are…?
I like to spend time with my family (especially my nieces!) and friends. If I’m not working on my quiet hobbies at home – such as reading, gardening, knitting, and baking – I like to go out on various adventures. The world is beautiful and I want to enjoy it!
What was the last great book you read?
This is a tough one. I’m usually reading about 5-10 books at any given time from all different categories. I was an English Literature major, so I like to read a lot of classical literature. Currently I’m in the middle of re-reading the works of J.R.R. Tolkien, as well as the complete collection of Sherlock Holmes and The Wheel of Time series. It’s too hard to pick a favorite!
What is something unique about you?
Something unique about me is that my interests are pretty varied. I could spend the weekend camping and chopping my own firewood, then get all dressed up to go to the opera or ballet the next week. I also enjoy a quiet evening knitting, reading, or playing whatever musical instrument I’m currently tinkering with. I enjoy small home improvement / DIY projects, as well, and I’m hoping to learn how to do more of my own car maintenance. I like to know how things work and how to do them myself!
What is a silly or interesting event that you’ve participated in previously, and what did you take away from the experience?
I did theatre all through high school, and one time we students were volunteered to wear those big, stuffy animal costumes with the huge heads to hand out candy and fliers at a local store. No one could see my face, so I learned a lot about the importance of body language in order to convey the correct impression. It also taught me a lot about assumptions that can be made based on appearance. Because people could only see the costume, people would make incorrect assumptions about who was inside it. It has helped me learn to not make similar assumptions based on appearance.
What would you do if you had an extra 5 hours every week?
It’s easy to stick with “in-home” hobbies after work, so if I had more time, I would like to spend it doing more of my outdoor hobbies – gardening, working with animals, hiking, traveling and finding new adventures.
If you could go anywhere for an entire month, where would it be?
I would love to spend a month in Scotland, exploring the Highlands and all the castles and isles. Something about the wild beauty of the Highlands and the Highland culture captured my interest. I also like Scottish musical instruments like the bagpipes, which can be quite the polarizing instrument!
What are you most frequently heard listening to?
My musical interests are also pretty varied, so at any given time I could be listening to country, pop, religious, classical, or soundtracks (either film or theatre) as my primary genres.
Favorite sports teams?
The Buffalo Bills! I grew up outside of New England, and prior to coming to New Hampshire, I lived in Buffalo for six years. Can you blame me??
